Terms of Service

Last updated: May 2026

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and HouseHub (“HouseHub”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) governing your access to and use of the HouseHub website, applications, and services (together, the “Platform”). By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, and Acceptable Use Policy, each of which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree, do not access or use the Platform.

Please read these Terms carefully. They include important limitations on our liability, a clarification that HouseHub is only a connection platform and is not responsible for the work of any professional, and a dispute-resolution section with an arbitration agreement and class-action waiver that affects how disputes are resolved.

1. Who May Use the Platform

To use the Platform you must be at least the age of majority in your province or territory (18 or 19 years old, depending on where you live) and able to form a binding contract. The Platform is intended for residents of Canada only; we make no representation that it is appropriate or available for use outside Canada. If you use the Platform on behalf of a business or other organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind that organization to these Terms, and “you” refers to that organization.

2. Definitions

  • “Homeowner” (or “Customer”) means a User who uses the Platform to search for, discover, or connect with Professionals, or who posts a Job Request.
  • “Professional” (or “Pro”) means a User who lists a business on the Platform to be discovered and contacted, whether a solo freelancer or a company.
  • “Job Request” means a posting created by a Homeowner describing home-related work they are looking for.
  • “Home Services” means the actual services performed by Professionals for Homeowners off the Platform. HouseHub does not provide Home Services.
  • “User Content” means anything you submit to the Platform, including profiles, Job Requests, reviews, photos, and messages.
  • “Platform” means the HouseHub website, applications, and related services.

3. What HouseHub Is — and Is Not

HouseHub is a search, discovery, and lead-generation platform. We help Homeowners find independent Professionals and give Professionals a place to be discovered. That is the entirety of our role.

HouseHub does not, and you acknowledge and agree that we do not: (a) provide, perform, manage, supervise, schedule, inspect, or control any Home Services; (b) act as a contractor, subcontractor, employer, agent, broker, or partner of any Professional or Homeowner; (c) become a party to any agreement, quote, or arrangement between a Homeowner and a Professional; or (d) collect, hold, or process any payment for Home Services. All hiring decisions, contracts, scheduling, pricing, payment, and communication relating to Home Services take place directly between the Homeowner and the Professional, off the Platform and at their own risk.

Any contract for Home Services is solely between the Homeowner and the Professional. We are not responsible for the performance, quality, timing, legality, safety, or outcome of any Home Services, or for the acts or omissions of any User.

4. Accounts

Some features require an account. We use passwordless sign-in (an email magic link and a one-time code) and optional sign-in through third-party providers (Google, Facebook, and X). You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information and to keep it up to date. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account and for keeping access to your email and account secure. Notify us promptly at support@househub.ca of any unauthorized use. You may not transfer your account without our consent, and you may not maintain more than one account except as expressly permitted (for example, a paid Professional managing multiple companies).

5. Homeowners

The Platform is free for Homeowners. When you post a Job Request or contact a Professional, you are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide. HouseHub does not verify, endorse, or guarantee any Professional, and a Professional's appearance in search results or a Job Request match is not a recommendation. Before hiring anyone, you are responsible for doing your own due diligence — confirming licensing, insurance, references, quotes, and suitability. Any dealings you have with a Professional, including any in-person visit to your home, are solely between you and the Professional and are at your own risk.

6. Professionals

Professionals may list a business as a solo freelancer or as a company. By listing on the Platform, you represent and warrant that you and anyone working for you (employees, contractors, and subcontractors): (a) are properly qualified, experienced, licensed, certified, bonded, and insured as required by applicable law for the Home Services you offer and the locations where you offer them; (b) will comply with all applicable laws and regulations; (c) will perform Home Services in a professional, workmanlike manner consistent with industry standards; and (d) will honor the agreements you make with Homeowners. You are solely responsible for the conduct of your personnel and for the Home Services you provide. Listing on the Platform does not guarantee that any Homeowner will contact or hire you, and we do not promise any particular number of leads, contacts, or results.

7. Listings, Approval, Badges & Verification

Before a Professional's profile becomes visible in search results or can receive Job Requests, it is reviewed and must be approved by HouseHub staff. This review is a basic check of the profile and is not a background check, a credit check, or a verification of a Professional's identity, licensing, insurance, qualifications, or the quality or safety of their work.

The Platform may display badges or labels (for example, “verified”, “premium”, or similar designations). These indicate only that a Professional has completed a relevant step or subscribes to a paid tier — they are not an endorsement, certification, guarantee, or warranty by HouseHub of any Professional or their Home Services. You should not rely on any badge, label, or approval as a substitute for your own due diligence.

8. Reviews & Ratings

Homeowners may submit ratings and reviews about Professionals they have connected with. Reviews must be honest, based on a genuine first-hand experience, and must comply with the Acceptable Use Policy. Do not post fake, incentivized, or misleading reviews, and do not attempt to manipulate ratings. Reviews are User Content; we may (but are not obligated to) screen, moderate, edit, refuse, or remove reviews, and we may compute and display aggregate ratings from them. Professionals may be given the opportunity to respond to reviews. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any review or rating.

9. AI-Powered Search & Matching

The Platform uses artificial intelligence — including third-party AI providers such as OpenAI — to interpret search queries and Job Requests and to match them to relevant service categories and Professionals. AI matching is provided on an “as is” basis, may be incomplete or inaccurate, and is not professional, legal, financial, or safety advice. Matches and rankings are not endorsements. We may rate-limit, log, and moderate search activity to protect the Platform, and we may block queries that we determine to be harmful, abusive, or unlawful. You are responsible for evaluating any results before acting on them.

10. Professional Subscriptions, Boosts & Fees

Core Platform access is free for Homeowners. Professionals may purchase optional paid subscriptions and “boosts” that provide benefits such as priority or boosted placement in search results, a badge, the ability to operate multiple companies, employee seats, and featured listings. Boosts may be one-time purchases, recurring subscriptions, or included with a paid tier in limited quantities.

Payments are processed by our third-party payment processor, Stripe; your use of Stripe is subject to Stripe's own terms and privacy policy. Current prices and what each plan or boost includes are shown in the Platform or at checkout. By purchasing, you authorize us and Stripe to charge your payment method for all applicable fees and taxes. Subscriptions renew automatically for successive periods of the same length until cancelled, and you authorize recurring charges until you cancel. You are responsible for keeping your payment information current. We may change our fees or plans on a prospective basis with reasonable notice; changes take effect on your next billing cycle, and continued use after a change means you accept it. You are responsible for all applicable taxes.

11. Cancellations & Refunds

You may cancel a subscription at any time through your account settings or the billing portal. Cancellation stops future renewals; your paid benefits continue until the end of the current billing period. Except where a refund is required by applicable law, all fees are non-refundable, payments are charged in advance, and we do not provide refunds or credits for partial periods, unused boosts, or benefits not used. Boosts are non-refundable once they have started. If we suspend or terminate your account for a breach of these Terms, you will not be entitled to any refund.

12. User Content & License

You retain ownership of your User Content. By submitting User Content, you grant HouseHub a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to host, store, reproduce, modify (for formatting and display), publish, publicly display, and otherwise use your User Content to operate, provide, promote, and improve the Platform, in any media. This license continues for User Content that is public (such as profiles and reviews) even after you close your account, to the extent it has been shared with or relied on by others. You represent and warrant that you own or have the necessary rights to your User Content and that it does not violate any law or the rights of any third party, and that it complies with the Acceptable Use Policy. We may remove or disable any User Content at our discretion.

13. Acceptable Use

Your use of the Platform must comply with our Acceptable Use Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms. Among other things, you must not misuse the Platform, post prohibited content, scrape or use automated tools, manipulate reviews or rankings, misrepresent yourself, circumvent fees, harvest other Users' personal information, or solicit Users off the Platform. Violations may result in content removal, suspension, or termination.

14. Intellectual Property

The Platform and all related content, software, designs, text, graphics, and the HouseHub name and logos (the “HouseHub Materials”) are owned by HouseHub or its licensors and are protected by law. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Platform for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, frame, scrape, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from the HouseHub Materials except as expressly permitted. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

15. Feedback

If you send us suggestions, ideas, or feedback about the Platform, you agree that we may use them without restriction or compensation to you, and you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to do so.

16. Third-Party Services & Links

The Platform relies on and may link to third-party services (for example, payment processing, maps, sign-in providers, messaging, and email). Your use of those services may be governed by their own terms and policies. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services, websites, or content, and accessing them is at your own risk.

17. No Endorsement; Disputes Between Users

HouseHub does not endorse, warrant, or guarantee any User, Professional, Homeowner, or Home Service. We do not verify the statements, qualifications, licensing, or insurance of Users, and we do not investigate or vet Home Services. You are solely responsible for your interactions with other Users. If you have a dispute with another User, you resolve it directly with them and release HouseHub from any claims arising out of that dispute. We have no obligation to become involved, although we may choose to help.

18. Disclaimers

THE PLATFORM AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE PLATFORM WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT SEARCH RESULTS, MATCHES, LISTINGS, REVIEWS, OR OTHER CONTENT ARE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR RELIABLE. WE MAKE NO WARRANTY REGARDING ANY PROFESSIONAL, HOMEOWNER, OR HOME SERVICE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THESE EXCLUSIONS MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU; IN THAT CASE, SUCH WARRANTIES ARE LIMITED TO THE MINIMUM EXTENT AND SHORTEST DURATION PERMITTED BY LAW.

19. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, HOUSEHUB AND ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE PLATFORM, ANY HOME SERVICES, OR YOUR INTERACTIONS WITH ANY USER, WHETHER BASED IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), OR ANY OTHER THEORY, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE PLATFORM OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE TOTAL FEES YOU PAID TO HOUSEHUB IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED CANADIAN DOLLARS (CAD $100). BECAUSE THE PLATFORM IS FREE FOR HOMEOWNERS, IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID HOUSEHUB ANY FEES, YOUR REMEDY IS LIMITED TO THIS AMOUNT.

NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED OR EXCLUDED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, INCLUDING NON-WAIVABLE CONSUMER-PROTECTION RIGHTS.

20. Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless HouseHub and its directors, officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Platform; (b) your User Content; (c) your Home Services or any interaction or transaction with another User; (d) your violation of these Terms or any law; or (e) your violation of any rights of a third party. We may assume the exclusive defense of any matter subject to indemnification by you, and you agree to cooperate.

21. Suspension & Termination

We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to the Platform or your account at any time, with or without notice, including if we believe you have violated these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, created risk or legal exposure, or for any other reason in our discretion. You may stop using the Platform and close your account at any time. Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ends; sections that by their nature should survive (including ownership, license grants, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution) will survive. We are not required to retain or return your User Content, and we have no obligation to delete reviews or other content others may rely on, subject to the Privacy Policy and applicable law.

22. Changes to the Platform & Terms

We may modify or discontinue all or part of the Platform at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time; if we make material changes, we will post the updated Terms and update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Changes take effect when posted (or on a later stated date). Your continued use of the Platform after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Platform.

23. Dispute Resolution, Arbitration & Governing Law

  • Governing law. These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or the Platform are governed by the federal laws of Canada and the laws of the province or territory in which you reside, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
  • Informal resolution first. Most concerns can be resolved quickly. Before starting a formal proceeding, you agree to first contact us at legal@househub.ca with a description of the dispute, and we will try in good faith to resolve it within 60 days.
  • Arbitration. Except where prohibited by applicable law, if we cannot resolve a dispute informally, you and HouseHub agree that the dispute will be finally resolved by confidential binding arbitration administered by the ADR Institute of Canada under its Simplified Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will take place in the province or territory where you reside (or another mutually agreed location), and may be conducted in English or French. Judgment on the award may be entered by any court of competent jurisdiction.
  • Individual basis only. To the maximum extent permitted by law, disputes will be resolved only on an individual basis. You and HouseHub waive any right to participate in a class action, class-wide arbitration, or other representative proceeding, and waive any right to a jury trial.
  • Exceptions. Either party may bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies, and either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in court to protect its intellectual property or confidential information.
  • Your rights. Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable rights you have under the consumer-protection or other laws of your province or territory. For example, if you reside in Quebec, certain limitations, the arbitration agreement, and the class-action waiver may not apply to you to the extent prohibited by Quebec law, and you retain your rights under the Consumer Protection Act (Quebec) and to bring proceedings in Quebec.
  • Time limit. To the extent permitted by law, any claim must be started within one (1) year after it arises.

24. General

  • Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, and Acceptable Use Policy, are the entire agreement between you and HouseHub regarding the Platform.
  • Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
  • No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it.
  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
  • No third-party beneficiaries. There are no third-party beneficiaries to these Terms.
  • Force majeure. We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
  • Electronic communications. You consent to receive communications and notices from us electronically, and you agree that electronic communications satisfy any legal requirement that they be in writing.
  • Language. These Terms are drawn up in English. Les parties ont demande que cette entente soit redigee en anglais. A French version may be made available; in case of conflict, the version applicable under your provincial law governs.
